De Maas anticipates ‘at least’ two deals for offshore pens in 2020; installs first in China

In the media: De Maas anticipates ‘at least’ two deals for offshore pens in 2020; installs first in China”, June 22, 2020, Louis Harkell.

Dutch-owned offshore pen designer De Maas expects to sign deals for two offshore farming units before the end of the year, after installing its first unmanned semi-submersible offshore pen in China.

There the pen -- called Semi-Submersible Fish Farm 150 (SSFF150) -- was built to specifications that will allow it to come through powerful seasonal typhoons Fujian is prone to. The American Bureau of Shipping – a certification body for offshore oil and gas platforms -- has certified SSFF150 as able to withstand grade 17 typhoons.

"A fair number of challenges have had to be overcome to make this first unit a success. This was unchartered territory for all and without the hard work and dedication of all stakeholders in the project this milestone would not have been achieved,".
